The Callen Sisters

Quite a Debut

     

These sisters have been making a name for themselves in the New York City music scene for quite some time now and it is thrilling to finally have their music be available to the public. Their sound is unique and unmistakably theirs. It is singer-song writer style with a twist. Elizabeth and Jessa Callen's styles and harmonies blend beautifully both lending their vocals to the songs with Elizabeth on guitar and Jessa on the harp. They take turns with the lead vocals but when they sing together it is truly magical. The lyrics are introspective and personal but relatable at the same time. "Tangled Up" and "Lullaby" are the most radio-friendly and you will have the choruses stuck in your head before you know it. "Almost Gone" and "Whirlwind Came" are very moving and anyone who has ever lost someone important in his or her life will definitely be touched. I have seen these musicians play live throughout the years and witnessed their growth. Their self-titled debut album is quite an accomplishment and one of my favorite albums released in 2007.
