Outstanding debut from a rising star
by jazzheadBritish-born Janek plays a 5-string Fodera Matt Garrison Signature model bass and has made a name for himself not only as a session player but as a producer and arranger in every genre from straight up pop to r&b to hip-hop and jazz. This album however, is jazz in the best sense of the word. Jaco Pastorius was not just a phenomenal bassist, but also an outstanding arranger for horns and large bands. Janek is well on his way to achieving the same status. He has chops to burn, but does not display them at every opportunity. The songs are the stars here, and Janek plays to serve them, not his own ego. The horn arranging is excellent, featuring challenging complex passages and beautiful harmonic development.
If you're even remotely thinking of buying this CD... do it! Simply put, an outstanding debut CD from a rising young star who is on his way to a major music career.
