Album Review
How do you know that Family Force 5 are a funny bunch of fellows? Well, they name their album after everybody's favorite haircut, the Mullet, for one — and if that didn't tip you off, there's also the fact that they have a drummer called "Crouton." The band's manifesto is unleased on its MySpace page: "They decided to make world history by playing an concoction of blended sounds!! Our music b uplifting and has a great message!" (sic). Well, Family Force 5 do indeed play a concoction of blended sounds which, to the untrained ear, may sound like metallic riffs and rap rhythms learned from Limp Bizkit, but given a tongue-in-cheek makeover by piling up all sorts sounds from the '80s, from analog synths to the theme from Knight Rider to harmonies lifted from urban soul records to Beastie Boys samples to Speak & Spells, which are heard on about three tracks and name-dropped in the opener, "Cadillac Phunque." And their music is indeed uplifting, if your definition of uplifting is, to paraphrase Eddie Murphy, partying all the time — and that pretty much happens to be their message, too, since every one of the 12 songs on Business Up Front is about having a good time (even the "X-Girlfriend" and bitchy "Drama Queen" seem to get smacked down; they won't get with the program and party). So, Family Force 5 don't take things too seriously, which is fair enough — rock & roll gets boring when bands get serious. And, man, do Family Force 5 try to be funny! All three singers — Soul Glow Activatur, Crouton, and Fatty — sing in goofy voices that occasionally come across like the privileged bullies mocking the needy. They ironically sing "You cannot stop the body rock/You cannot stop the funk." They steal lines, even phrasing, from the Beasties, they tell all the ugly people to "put ur hands down." The jokes fly so fast and furious that it gets a little tiring, but they do manage a few hooks that stick ("Kountry Gentlemen" and "X-Girlfriend" chief among them). And they do have some musical acumen, enough to make Business Up Front/Party in the Back reasonable background noise at a party.

Fantastic
by luvsrockinKeeps the heavy beat, with actual lyrics. Unlike some music like this that's just "sex sex sex" all the time, this keeps attention without swearing or vulgarity. Awesome, in every respect of the word.

Completely AWESOME!!
by me00001This is Family Force 5's debute CD, which is very suprising because they already have a very well established sound.
And to you people who are complaining like this: "They're not a Christian band, they only sing about partying!!" and "They're lyrics have nothing to do with God!" you obviously need to pay more attention. They have A LOT of songs that relate to God. I.E, Love Addict, Replace Me, Peachy, and every single one on the Diamond Edition of this CD (I Love You To Death, Face Down, and Never Let Me Go). Not to mention a lot of their songs on Dance or Die, too. It's very easy to tell that they're a Christian band if you pay attention. But if you're not a Christian, it's still possible to like these guys because every single song they write isn't about Christianity.
And about the partying, they're talking about dancing. Good, clean, dancing. It's possible to do that without drugs and sex, you know.
And now for a full analysis of the album ^_^
Cadillac Phunque- This is my favorite song. And not just from this band, I mean out of every song I like, this song is my favorite XD The guitar work's completely awesome and the over all beat of the song is very jam worthy. very good way to start off an amazing album 10/10
Kountry Gentleman- An ode to the south. These guys are from Georgia, afterall XD very good song with lyrics that are extremely creative and pretty hilarious too. Their singer has this amazing ability to sing/rap extremely fast, and that really shows up in this song 9/10
X-Girlfriend- This is another one of my personal favorites; this song is definatly ranked as the catchiest song I've ever heard in my life! has a very snappy, hardcore beat. 9/10
Drama Queen- Drama Queen's an interesting song. It's pretty different, I think. It's one of the few songs where their singer, drummer, and bassist all sing it lol. Very awesome 9/10
Put Ur Hands Up- I say this for a lot of their songs, but this is yet another of my favorites ^.^ it's almost like a rap song that has guitars and drums instead of a techno loop. Plus, how can you not love the 'wah oh wah oh''s? XD 10/10
Love Addict- By far their most popular song. And for a good reason! At first listen, this song may sound like a bunch of noise, but it starts to grow on you, and at a fast pace. There's a good hidden meaning in there too XD 10/10
Earthquake- Another great party song. I don't really like this one as much as the others, but it's still a great song. Good moshing song lol 8/10
Replace Me- I LOVE this song! It has a great alternative rock base, and I love the lyrics. They have a great, powerful meaning. Great job, FF5 10/10
Lose Urself- Very dancy song XD it has one of the coolest beats like, ever. I looove the chorus, it has a great sound. The whole song has a great sound really. 10/10
Peachy- Very upbeat song with a bright sound! It's mainly because of this song that I don't get why people look down on these guys for 'not being a Christian band.' Listen to the lyrics lol. Plus the music's great 9/10
Supersonic- Probably my least favorite song on this album. I still like it though, if that tells you anything hahaha. There's nothing wrong with it, it's a good song to party to 7/10
Numb- This is another example of the singer's amazing fast-singing XDD this song is very enjoyable, catchy, and fun. Ends the album with a bang. Literally, because it does like, pop at the end lol 9/10
well, I don't think I gave anything lower than a 7... But I'm being honest with my ratings. This album seriously amazing, and I definatly suggest checking it out. Or just check the band out as a whole, they have some very awesome music :D
