Album Review
Every year, countless people from different parts of the United States move to Nashville with one goal in mind: to have a career in country music. They don't necessarily sing, write songs or play an instrument; perhaps they are interested in A&R, publicity or promotions. But whether their goal is performing or working in a behind-the-scenes capacity, so many of the music-minded people who live in Nashville have country music (or at least some type of Americana or roots rock) on the brain. There are many exceptions, however — and Forget Cassettes is a definite exception. This Nashville-based group has nothing whatsoever to do with country, Americana or roots rock; the focus of Salt, their second album, is darkly introspective but often combustible alt rock/indie rock that draws on direct or indirect influences such as PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Lydia Lunch, Hole and Nirvana. But while lead singer/guitarist Beth Cameron has some of Amos' melodic and harmonic sensibilities, Forget Cassettes rocks much harder — and like Harvey, the expressive Cameron favors a very stream-of-consciousness approach. Throughout the high-angst album, Cameron fluctuates between darkly brooding melodies and moments of angry, explosive release. Salt is an album of contrasts, and Cameron handles herself memorably well whether she is exercising restraint or wailing and screaming during the 2006 recording's more intense moments. Forget Cassettes' material is not groundbreaking and doesn't pretend to point alt rock or indie rock in any new directions, but it is nicely crafted and nicely executed (if a bit self-indulgent at times). And all things considered, Salt is a strong sophomore outing from the Nashville-based group.

All sweet and innocent, then your embrassed with death grip screams and ramming melodies!
by Xanadu LovelessFirst off, my review is based on seeing them in concert, but that was all I needed. Got both this album and Instruments of Action, and am also completely head over heels in love with their bassist but thats besides this review. Beautiful ambiance through the slow parts, great beats and riffs through the heavier parts, even has some clapping in the first track. The vocals of Beth are simply hypnotic when quiet, earth shattering when enraged. With this band you'll get a refreshing asskicking rock band that leave you wanting more after each track. Still on the underground, though for how long? With their third album on the way. Success is only granted to those who have the love for the fans and the talent. This is the future everyone, like it or not. By the way, did I mention the bassist is really hot and funny? >_>
necessary music...
by 1 Big IndianI love all types of music, sure i do have some exceptions, but there is a common theme between all the music closest to my heart... passion. That's the best word to sum up Forget Cassettes, passion... in heaps. Great Starter Songs are 1. Patience, Beth (reprise) and 2. Salt and Syncopy. FYI Hip-Hop is my music of choice and i listen to this cd whenever i work out. SALT is that powerful.
astonishing
by daughjI came across this band sort of haphazardly and I really liked the song The Catch so I bought the cd. This band is absolutely amazing! I'm surprised they are not more popular than they are, the music is soo good and the songwriting is very well thought out. They have such a dynamic style, very powerful and original sounding. I love that many of the songs are in the 5 to 6 minute range, the band really knows how to jam and using progressive song structures lets them shine even brighter. Singer/guitarist Beth Cameron is a poet and her vocal delivery is excellent. Again, amazing songwriting. Forget Cassettes is one of the best new bands I've heard in a long time.
