iTunes Review

The followup to the mega-platinum Born in the U.S.A., Tunnel of Love, is a brilliant, bittersweet meditation on love and life in the shadow of success. Springsteen had spent the previous years touring and basking in the adoration of fans worldwide, only to come home to face his own identity crisis. It begins a cappella with a rockabilly kick in "Ain't Got You." From there, the music slowly opens up,minimally arranged, with bandmates brought in as needed. There is none of the furious rock n' roll punch of his most popular work. Instead, keyboards and acoustic guitars usher in somber tones as Springsteenr eflects: "Tougher Than the Rest," "Cautious Man," "Walk Like A Man." Each tune is imbued with a foreboding sense that all is not right. The dark clouds surrounding this album alongside Springsteen's unflinching and honest insights make this one of his most underrated and rewarding albums.

This album is not as bad as people think. You can tell that he was going through hard times when he wrote this stuff and songs like Tunnel of Love and Brilliant Dusguise are amazing. GOOD ALBUM.

His Best

Tunnel of Love was his best in my opinion for all around music and lyrics. I know many will disagre, but for me, in my youth in was his best and will always be!

A Quiet Masterpiece

by BwanaEast

If this was Bruce's only record, he would never have become The Boss. He would have simply been known as one of the great singer-songwriters of all time instead. As a collection of songs, this is certainly his most personal piece of work, and might just be his strongest. Born to Run, The River, and Born in The USA are without a doubt, three of the best Rock records ever made. Tunnel of Love though is a quiet master work. Tougher Than The Rest, Walk Like A Man, and the Willy DeVille inspired Brilliant Disguise are just three of the standouts on this beautiful record.
