iTunes Review

Maybe it was the political climate, but back in 1984 a story about a rural American town that outlawed music and dancing actually seemed possible. The 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of the soundtrack to the teen movie Footloose is loaded with all kinds of guilty pleasures and catchy, upbeat ‘80s cheese. Kicking off with a clean remaster of Kenny Loggins’ title-track, “Footloose” bounces like the mellow groove of a Hall & Oates number but with Loggins’ trademark twang and a keyboard that sounds so indicatively ‘80s, it very well may have been covered in fluorescent pink paint. Deniece Williams’ synthy dance-pop hit “Let’s Hear It for the Boy” plays as though it could live in groovy symbiosis with Madonna’s “Lucky Star.” Both “Footloose” and “Let’s Hear It for the Boy” were No. 1 hits and the soundtrack sold six million copies when it came out. Ann Wilson of Heart and Loverboy’s Mike Reno inadvertently soundtracked many a high school prom with their steamy duet in “Almost Paradise,” but it was the swoon of Foreigner’s “Waiting For A Girl Like You” which scored the make-out parties.
