iTunes Review

After creating a little ripple in a big pond with Verses of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation in 2006, Brooklyn’s female electronic pop trio Au Revoir Simone comes back strong with the The Bird of Music.  Making fairy-dust pop with keyboards and a shy drum machine, Au Revoir Simone have a keen sense of pop melody and uplifting song constructs (danceable, swaying rhythms, shiny tambourines, glossy harmonies) which are saved from full-on tweeness by a healthy dose of Postal Service-style synth cool. “The Lucky One” is a glass-half-full invocation of a new day that makes getting out of bed on a Monday morning easier, but there’s a slight detachment to the upbeat vibe — here and throughout The Bird of Music — that keeps things from veering into saccharine overload. ARS employs a contemporary take on classic girl/synth pop, crafting a careful balance of the infectious and upbeat (“Dark Halls,” “Stars, “Sad Song”) and intimate musing (“Don’t See the Sorrow,” “Lark”). The Bird of Music’s remix treatment, Reverse Migration, may also interest those who are enchanted with these beautiful songs.

I had no idea who these girls were and by chance I heard them at SXSW. They were amazing. The entire audience was captivated. I highly recommend them. Out of all the bands I heard that week, these three girls were very memorable. I haven't heard the cd but from their live show I'm confident that it is great.

love it
