iTunes Review
One of Houston’s hardest working lyricists, Chamillionaire has been working overtime these past few years turning out dozens of his own ambitiously wordy verses as well as ghostwriting for the likes of Paul Wall and a host of lesser known Houston MCs. On Ultimate Victory Chamillionaire crafts more slick, sing-a-long hooks to consolidate his newfound popularity but is careful to balance hardcore lyricism and thoughtful production against the occasional flash of commercial gloss. The standout tracks here are among the best that Chamillionaire has ever produced. “Pimp Mode” sees him trading artful boasts with UGK’s Bun B, while on “Hip-Hop Police” Cham and Slick Rick rail against what they see as the media's hypocritical assault on Hip-Hop culture. Though these tracks prove that Chamillionaire can trade verse with some of the best MCs in the game, Ultimate Victory sports its share of filler, particularly the leaden “Party Like a Rockstar” knock-off “Rockstar” and the lazy lothario poses of “I Think I Love You”. Nonetheless, Ultimate Victory is a showcase for some of Chamillionaire’s finest verses and is well worth the attention of anyone interested in the Houston scene.

Chamillionaire's "Ultimate Victory" is Definitely a Winner
by Eric - Music ExplorerAfter delivering on his first album, “Sound of Revenge”, Chamillionaire is back with his sophomore album “Ultimate Victory”. Ever since purchasing this album in 2007, I have playing this album on a constant basis. This album is more political and personal; entailing topics such as personal struggles with money, government, critics of Southern rap music, and the willingness to succeed without selling out.
The album gets started on a political note with “Morning News”, which talks about current issues surrounding the world. The first single “Hip Hop Police” featuring Slick Rick is a good song for the die-hard hip hop listeners, but it did not garner much commercial success due to its non-radio appeal. Kane is responsible for producing the next two tracks “Standing Ovation” and “Wont Let You Down”, with the former being radical and the latter being inspirational. Bun B stops in for “Pimp Mode”, a laid back track taking a stab at the “pimps” in the world, and how Cham does it so effortlessly. The next track, “Rock Star” featuring Lil Wayne, might be the least enjoyable track on the album in my opinion, but still gets some play.
Krayzie Bone and Chamillionaire get together to make another hit called “The Bill Collecta”. Chamillionaire reps for the street hustle with “Come Back to the Streets”, one my favorite songs lyrically. “The Evening News” picks up where the intro song left off, emphasizing on former President George W Bush, and other topics that seem to not be talked about within everyday news. “Welcome to the South” features the late Pimp C, while Famous drops his lyrical prowess on “You Must Be Crazy”. The last two tracks on the album “Rocky Road” and the self-titled track, talks more about the struggles and triumph. Both are good listens.
This album was one of the best of 2007. However, it was highly overlooked due to Kanye West and 50 Cent releasing their albums a week before. I believe the album is better than both of them. A definitely must listen. Can’t wait for his next album.
