In case you were wondering, Keith Urban equates creating songs with creating new life, hence the 18 Kids in the title of his greatest hits compilation. It's not sequenced according to any timeline — Urban's first smash hit, the semi-secular "But For The Grace Of God" appears 11 songs deep into the collection. And since his first band The Ranch never hit radio paydirt, his rocking cover of Stealer's Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle With You" is unfortunately absent. But the rest of 18 Kids delivers the hits, as well as two bonus songs, the best one here being a mellow rocking cover of Steve Forbert's 1979 hit "Romeo's Tune," which actually kicks off the collection. Urban's triumphantly sappy, post rehab apology "Stupid Boy" is here in all its six minutes and 21 seconds, and that epic, wide-standing guitar solo at the end never gets old. And of course this compilation wouldn't be complete without the peppy and poppy "Days Go By" or the playfully self deprecating "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me." Keith Urban fans will likely agree that 18 Kids is a thorough representation of eight solid years of hits.

watch CMA performance
by jmk52If you missed it, find Keith Urban's live performance at the CMA show and watch it. I thought it was the best performance of the night. Based on that, I bought two of his albums, which were the first country albums I've bought in years. I've enjoyed the Greatest Hits and Gravity albums much more than I would have guessed... and I'm always expecting the best. Very good!
