iTunes Review

Much like U2, Radiohead do regular battle with their group identity, harvesting new ideas and pathways to the future while simultaneously acknowledging their past legacy. With 2007’s In Rainbows, Radiohead continue to seek new patterns and blends without succumbing to pure art for art’s sake. Kid A and Amnesiac took them to the ambient edge and they’ve been clawing themselves slowly back to the pop playground ever since. Thom Yorke is a naturally gifted vocalist whose acapella can lift any melody to stratospheric heights and when his group turns down the volume and settles into a subdued groove (“Nude, “ “Weird Fishes/ Arpeggie”), the result is a surreal new age vibe where what could be sterile, slick tones are infused with touches of extreme emotionalism. There is always a sense of danger lurking in the guitars and keyboards; storm clouds frequently gather by mid-song. The angry clank of “15 Step,” the marching synthesizer doom behind “All I Need,” the obscuring, mysterious reverb of “House of Cards” create soundscapes that aren’t afraid to dream beyond the usual instrumental limits.

This CD is just pure Awesomeness. Nothing has come close to and album like Ok, no one has ever been able to come up with music so grand you just need to drop everything and listion. Radiohead has done it again! this is one step below OK Computer, and one above Kid A.
Enough said. BUY IT!!!! OR DIE!

I think the section of Nude where Thom sings "Thinking" is the most perfect sound ever recorded. Like better than some orgasms. Ok that's gushing a little, but it's pretty great.

Amazing

I found out about this album about 5 months before it came out, and since the day i found out about it, i was really excited for it to come out because im a huge radiohead fan and have all of their albums. I bought it the day it came out and was really pleased with all but a couple of songs, and sometimes i wonder how radiohead keeps releasing all these groundbreaking albums almost effortlessly. Heres what i thought about in rainbows:

15 Step (10/10) At one point I was completely obsessed with this song and listened to it at least 5 times every single day for about a couple months. Everything about this song is genius.
Bodysnatchers (8.5/10) This song is OK on the album, but is far better when radiohead plays it live.
Nude (9/10) A nice song to chill out to. Its also always puzzling me what the lyrics are in this song...hes really hard to understand haha.
Weird Fishes/Arpeggi (10/10) Amazing song that has an astounding build up that all drops off its a quite period where its just beautiful instruments and thoms voice, then the song explodes into the greatest thing thats happened on this masterpeice of an album yet.
All I Need (8/10) This song is good. It has a great ending that will really move you when you hear it.
Faust Arp (3/10) Really stupid.
Reckoner (8/10) Yet again, this song is way better when its played live, but its still pretty good on the album. I like the drums in it.
House of Cards (7/10) Pretty boring to me but a lot of people like it who are radiohead fans so Im just gonna call it okay and move on.
Jigsaw Falling Into Shape (10/10) This song has a really good atmosphere that feels like theyre having a fun time and relaxing for the first time in a while. Sounds a lot like their stuff from the 90's.
Videotape (9/10) Good song choice to end the album. Really spooky though in some strange way that I can't really put my finger on. It gets a little bit annoying though when that fast galloping sound starts playing in 2 second loops over and over again.

This album is a really ambitious album by Radiohead, and really shows how they mature more and more with every album they make. In Rainbows, in my opinion has some songs that didn't quite work out (Faust Arp) but at least theyre trying new things and not wearing themselves out.

Go Radiohead! Buy this album if you're looking for a good album to put on your iPod.

Biography

Formed: 1989 in Oxford, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Radiohead was one of the few alternative bands of the early '90s to draw heavily from the grandiose arena rock that characterized U2's early albums. But the band internalized that epic sweep, turning it inside out to tell tortured, twisted tales of angst and alienation. Vocalist Thom Yorke's pained lyrics...
