The B.L.B - About to Change the Game

So basically, it’s the B.L.B.

Is there really anything else I need to say? Well, yes. Since the glorious summer of 2005, I have been blessed to witness a few live performances from these talented musicians. John Hazen Sitterly (vocals, guitar), and Joey Forest Dembs, or “J-Forest” (vocals) have truly revolutionized and revived a musical genre of “rowdy acoustic” rock that has been poorly simulated by numerous musicians since the fall of Sublime.

The entire album should not be simply characterized as “Alternative” since each song contains its unique elements. However, some words that come to mind range from groovy, calm, rambunctious, hilarious, to legendary. Songs like “12oz Curls” and “Feel All Right” that feature the ingenious sound mix that switch between Hazen’s smooth voice and J-Forest’s sensational rap vocals show a level of technical and aesthetic creativity that will hopefully transfer over to their next album.

Although many of the songs are seemingly influenced by their (and other’s) summer experiences, and tracks like “Badger Music” and the last three minutes of “Hoodrats & Rowdies” may completely mystify (and offend) some people, the songs are quite universal. Despite the façade of some juvenile subject matter, most of the songs contain heart and maturity. I believe Hazen’s brief vocal solo in “12oz Curls” exemplifies this.

Overall, Drunken Banter is a well-constructed and well-mixed album, with plenty of tracks that will make you “Feel All Right” and others that will make you downright laugh. John Hazen’s stellar yet relaxed guitar playing will transcend your mind from the monotony of everyday life and J-Forest’s rap antics will have you quoting the B.L.B in no time.
Having met a few of the individuals mentioned in these songs, I can honestly say, the B.L.B does not write songs about anybody; they write songs about legends. And legends are what this album embodies.

These are some great musicians who are off to good start. So buy the album, sit back, and enjoy. After all, it’s the B.L.B; rockin’ round, droppin’ rhymes, spittin’ history.
