Album Review

Years as an indie act and hundreds of live dates paid off on the band's third disc, its first with Vertical Shift Records and with Dustin Carlson on lead vocals. On the Brink of It All symbolized a jumping-off point both for the band and for listeners. The quartet's old-fashioned work ethic and exceptional lyrical quality made this one of 2008's best rock albums note for note. Poetic in form and authentic in delivery, the production captured an anthemic rock sound that was every bit as energetic and raw as Switchfoot's Oh! Gravity. The songs were driven by intriguing messages of realism and discipleship. Besides Carlson's relentlessly emotive vocals, the album benefited from Zach Andresen's exceptional guitar work. The chorus of "Can't Explain" showed that the album captured the duality of redemption and worship like few contemporary rock acts could: "Yesterday I was six feet underground/Now I'm on my knees." Overall, this crisp masterpiece is on par with Mae's The Everglow or Anberlin's Never Take Friendship Personal — an enlightening journey that leaves listeners wondering how they could get so much personal benefit from a rock album.

"Run" lyrics

by BenefitOfTheDoubt

You never fake the red across your wrist.
There's never been a mascara that could fix,
The saddest eyes a boy has ever seen,
When you want so desperately to bleed.
We were never meant for this.
Don't worry, on we'd run.
So put your hand inside of mine,
Together we'll...

Run until the world goes dark,
When we're all alone.
I swear I will,
Run into the darkest night,
And bring back the stars,
To light up the skies.

You try to hide the bruises on your skin.
You are never gonna hide those buried in.
The coldest eyes a boy has ever felt,
To hear you say that you're the one to blame.
We're not the cause of this.
These things were broke before.
So put your hand inside of mine,
Together we'll...

Run until the world goes dark,
When we're all alone.
I swear I will,
Run into the darkest night,
And bring back the stars,
To light up the skies.

These lives are not our own.
This love will hold you close,
Never leave your side.
This world is far too cold,
To go at this on your own,
So place your hand in mine.

Run until the world goes dark,
When we're all alone.
I swear I will,
Run into the darkest night,
And bring back the stars.

Toegther we'll,
Run until the world goes dark,
When we're all alone.
I swear I will,
Run into the darkest night,
And bring back the stars,
To light up the skies.

Sooo Good!

This is a great album, every song these guys put out is worth buying. Bottom line, they have great lyrics with great melodies.

One of the best acts I've heard in a long time

I pretty much ditched the Christian music scene about 2 years ago because of the complete lack of originality and creativity that for the most part pervaded it. So I moved on to the creativity of indie music. When I looked up Ever Stays Red and noticed the "Christian and Gospel" genre tag on it, I almost immediately left it alone. However, after reading a few reviews, I decided to check it out and when I got the CD I was blown away!

Strong, passionate vocals, solid guitarcraft, poetic lyrics, this is just the start of describing Ever Stays Red's debut on a major label. The songcraft of these guys is some of the best I've seen in a good while. As for quality, It's on par with acts such as House of Heroes, Anberlin, Mae, Mewithoutyou, etc. I'm not one for long winded reviews, but I've gotta say that this instantly took over as one of my favorite albums on the first listen. Definately recommended to anyone who's looking for quality musically, lyrically, and even spirtual content.
