"Paused In Time" Is The Portal For Real Hip Hop
This complilation is beyond the beyond: from J.Lynn, Profitne$$, Saul Reel, Sun Tzu, The Dean, Rabiah, 810, and the prolific production of K-Trax, Jordan Ocean, Tim Cutty, and Saul Reel, this is an amazing debut. For "twentysomethings" to capture the essence, passion, poetry, and creativity of a music--real Hip Hop, not corporate culture beats and rhymes--that proceeds them by two generations, is a testament not only to the potency of the music, but the dedication of the creators of this sonic art. These rhymes are not confined to 16 bars spitting out stories of triple beams, kilos, cars, "money, ho's & clothes". This is not about bullets, murkin' and body count, but the toll that mindset has taken on the community, and frankly, what can be done about it. This is real talk about real things, the kind of music that made KRS-One and Ice Cube and Public Enemy the voices of the people when we could still hear the truth, the kind of music that made Nas infect Hip Hop with the street flu of an Illmatic, the kind of music that keep us inhaling the genius Tupac and Biggie long after their collective last breath, the kind of music Jay sneaks in between the mega-deals, the shadow-marriage speculations, and hit singles, music that makes him look in the mirror and wondering what he has become. These are rhymes about change and introspection and facing the man and woman staring back unblinkingly in the looking-glass of life."Paused In Time" is an audacious attempt to be a GPS in an era of "Lost Ones", and ranks not only as one of the best Hip Hop albums of 2008, but quite possibly, one of the best compilations, ever.

BEST COMPILATION ALBUM OF THE 21ST CENTURY
Wow, where do I begin? Lyricism, production, arrangement, conception, sound, look, feel, Real Hip-Hop! From track 1 to 12 this is a great album! I havent heard an compilation album of this caliber since Ryde or Die Vol 1. This is truly ear candy to consumers of real Hip-Hop. I couldnt turn away from any track! the explosive intro to the meloncholy Baltimore Pity, they even took me to the pre-Reagan era (if you go that far back) with Before Crack. And I couldnt help play the speaker blasting Top Drop over and over again! This is therapy in this era of diaster, and redundant sound. Long story short, I give this album 5 and a half mics!
Great Album
This is what Hip-Hop needs right now, a shot of the Boom-Bap in both arms!!! This is one of the best albums I've heard in a while, can't wait until Vol. 2. Keep Hip-Hop alive. Peace!!!
