The the Best Kind of Weird
by spooles out 4 summaI had no idea what to expect when I put this album on. I liked their name, and a couple of my friends kept going on about their live set.
Here's the breakdown...
1. Coma Motor Inn - The album opens with sounds of car doors closing and walking footsteps followed by crunchy, fuzzy guitars. After I was comptetely addicted to the sound itself, the voice came, and I was hooked.
2. Bears and Beards - "I'm a wave-form, yes I'm a wave form". A funny, catchy track in an odd way. It starts with great nasal falsetto strangeness.
3. Fake Summer - An obvious single. This might be the best ride on the album.
4. Kid_System - This one's got all the drama. Spooky and piercing. It's my favorite at the moment. It has some of the best lyrics too.
5. Whirling guitars and a slower tempo help change the tone of the record. This is a pretty tender songs for DK, but it still definitely rocks.
6. Much Love in the Evil Sound - Demented conversation starts the track, followed with demented happy music about evil sounds... This one stays firmly stuck in my head; "I'm so gigantic dizzy with it dig it, just like a big giant weapon" ha!
7. Lines and Lines - A fast, wild, raucous song interspersed with shouts of ecstasy. oooh its good!
8. Very Hot - It's like depeche mode's evil twin. A great closer for a great album.
I am all over this record
by dargent is money'Coma Motor Inn' is one of the best things I've heard in a while. There is so much depth, humour, sensuality and passion behind these tracks, that you can't help but be awed. There are no junk/ throw-aways here. You've heard this before but it's like nothing you've ever heard. I'm glad I found Diet Kong, can't wait to hear more.
One of the best of '08
by larsondowndaroadI got this without knowing anything about Diet Kong. The cd cover grabbed me. This music is original in it's sound, fun and really entertaining. The sound is that of a grittier Depeche Mode. Best tracks are: "FAke Summer", "Kid System", "Very Hot" and "Lines and Lines". I rate this as one of the best CD's of 2008. Very enjoyable!
