iTunes Review
Jakob Dylan established himself as a legitimate singer, songwriter, and performer with his group the Wallflowers. But as early as his first LP with the touching acoustic “Asleep at the Wheel,” Dylan showed signs of being at his absolute best at his least encumbered. So, for his first solo album, 2008’s Seeing Things, he hired Rick Rubin to produce and strip it all down, keeping Dylan’s voice front and center and letting the songs spill out at their own pace. Without an extra flourish or note, Dylan goes to work, coming up with an entire album of extremely strong material. “Evil is Alive and Well” takes the temperature of modern times, while “Valley of the Low Sun,” “Everybody Pays As They Go,” “Something Good This Way Comes,” and “The End of the Telescope” specialize in a timeless folk tradition where new melodies carry a ring of the familiar, as if they’d been there all along. This unforced ease begs Dylan to continue in this vein. The kid’s a natural, following in the family tradition, adhering to standards that must seem at least a little daunting at times. Here, you’d never know it.

He is not his dad!
by MayahonFirst of all, this is a great, simple album. The music is thoughtful and the lyrics are not as "pedestrian" as some reviewers have stated. I think if Jakob had any other last name besides Dylan those same reviewers would have a different opinion. He is not Bob, so stop expecting him to be!
Good stuff, and well worth the 8 bucks.
We want more!
by J.WilliamThis is awesome stuff, I'm left wanting more!!
Less is Much, Much More...
by SF FanJakob Dylan shows that in many cases less is much much more when it comes to music. Nowadays, it seems that as soon as someone gets noticed for their talent, the producers of subsequent albums immediately cover up the talent with layer upon layer of needless noise (see; Ray LaMontagne)
Forget ridiculous string arrangements and overly "mechanized" and over produced dreck, when you have a true artist like Jakob Dylan, the simple beauty of his voice and instrument lifted in harmony on thoughtful well written lyrics and melodies provides this listener with far and away the most listening enjoyment.
An absolutely-first rate album by a musician who was already on top of his game and has now hit his stride big time!
