Album Review
Stevie Wonder shocked fans by taking only two years to release his next new non-soundtrack studio album, Characters. Unfortunately, it had long since become clear that Wonder was willing to settle for good pop music without challenging himself to make great pop music. And by now, a big chunk of his formerly mass audience had gotten the message: this was Wonder's first new album to miss the pop Top Five in 15 years. (The black music audience, however, responded far more favorably, as the album topped the R&B charts for seven weeks.) The biggest single was the "Superstition"-like dance track "Skeletons" (number 19 pop, number one R&B), and Wonder also charted with the pretty "You Will Know" and an up-tempo duet with Michael Jackson, "Get It."

1 of my favorite cd's
by rock with youI have a huge collection of cds and I am always changing my music on my ipod. But the 1 album I never change is this one. I LOVE this album. Most of my cds I skip though them and just pick out my favorite songs but every song on "Characters" I like. And some would be surprise to know that i am only 21 years old and most of Stevie's music is before my time. But the music is just GOOD. It is worth buying at least one of these songs from this album.
Another Good Album
by KADossVA"Characters" is another enjoyable Stevie Wonder album. While not up to the standards set by his 1970's releases, it is a very good recording with some exceptional songs. "You Will Know" is gorgeous and Stevie kicks out some serious funk with "Skeletons" and "My Eyes Don't Cry". I also enjoyed "Dark n Lovely", "With Each Beat of My Heart" and "Crying Through the Night". The duet with Michael Jackson "Get It" and "Come Let Me Make Your Love Come Down" with B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughn are also quite good. The remaining songs aren't bad and, as a whole, "Characters" is a rewarding listening experience.
