iTunes Review

One of the most intense dissections of game ever recorded, Paid in Full is spoken not from the perspective of a witness but as willing participant. The moments captured on this classic reflects a mindset later emulated by Nas, Biggie, 2Pac and the rest. Rakim reveals potential dangers unseen by the naked eye. Scarier, Ra demonstrates the multiple ways an MC can play themselves with an economy of words that, when stitched together, present an epic narrative worthy of a Martin Scorsese movie. "Move the Crowd," "I Ain't No Joke," "I Know You Got Soul," and "As My Rhyme Goes On" are all amazingly cinematic. An absolute classic.

honestly I wish I could give this album 10 stars. Rakim is possibly the greatest lyricist of all time and the beats are just insane. I dare anyone to listen to this album and say they dont like it. This is what rap should be

Move The Crowd

Along with Jamel Shabazz whose many books documented the era in which I grew up, I can't help but reminisce about a more enjoyable time when the infant form of rap was the soundtrack to our daily life. We listened as the rappers of those days would for the first time paint a picture capturing the way we actually lived. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Treacherous Three, RUN-D.M.C and the too many to list other talented groups and mike controllers who paved the way. But while they may have done a great job at bringing rap to the forefront, none was able to transform hip-hop/rap to the degree of integrating words and beats on the level of The God(aka The R). Much respects to Eric B and the many DJs' who kept our heads ringing, whether at clubs (We Paid In Full) or on the radio stations. We lived then, in the greatest of all times in the history of rap.

They never had a mainstream hit of their own, but during rap's so-called golden age in the late '80s, Eric B. & Rakim were almost universally recognized as the premier DJ/MC team in all of hip-hop. Not only was their chemistry superb, but individually, each represented the absolute state of the art...
