Back in 1995, when a buff D'Angelo showed up shirtless with ripped abs and a ballyhooed debut, we knew what he was selling, right? After all, how good could this 21-year-old kid be musically? Awfully good, in fact: Brown Sugar proved to be one of the year's biggest R&B highlights, and it cleared the way for a full-on new wave of sensual neo-soul. With this album, D'Angelo creates the kind of elegant, organic grooves that made his heroes-Smokey, Sly, and Stevie-so legendary. Key tracks: "Lady," "Cruisin'," and "Brown Sugar"

by Oceans22albums to date. It was "smoov" & mellow. Had just the right instruments & background vocals. Every song sounded just a little different but just familiar enough to keep you glued. This is like an old 8 track where you "wanted" to hear every song & not just hit the forward button.
