Album Review
Previously the singer for rock bands Spirit and Jo Jo Gunne, Ferguson had gone the pop route by the time of his second solo album. Recorded in Miami with Joe Walsh guesting on many tracks, he hit a home run with the title track mega-hit. A sun-drenched summer anthem, it would be the biggest song of Ferguson's career and later turn up on '70s compilations. The rest of the album was similar in mood and feel: largely up-tempo late-'70s rock/pop. Most tracks are graced with Walsh's guitar, which keep the songs from falling too largely on the pop side of things. Though not a perfect album, it was less uneven than most of Ferguson's other solo efforts, though it definitely sounds a product of its time. Which can be good or bad, depending on your taste in music.

Thunder Island is just the tip!
by arizonaspiritEveryone digs Thunder Island and rightfully so..it was Fergusons finest hour. But do not over look Nightshift which has a funky bassline and synthesizer bouncing off the lyrics that speak about just how fun the night time can be. And Love Is Cold is a pretty ballad that has soulful female backing vocals that scream 70's..and that's a great thing.
GREAT 70's ROCK
by HowjazzyI was a big Jay Ferguson fan and recently started listening to Thunder Island again. A great album filled with great songs and great musicians playing such as Joe Walsh.
For some reason, this CD brings back fond memories. It captures the sound of 70's rock, and the overall fantastic talent that prevailed in this decade. Worth buying.
better version of song "Thunder Island" here
by ChrisFaI recommend this vs. the Rhino album for the version of the song "Thunder Island". You can read the review I posted on the Rhino album for more info. I rated the album but I'm really only listened to this one song.
