Album Review

Lonelyland is an entertaining, occasionally impressive effort that bodes well for singer/songwriter Bob Schneider's future. The LP kicks off with "Metal and Steel," an acoustic number that is vaguely reminiscent of Paul Simon at his most Dylan-esque. Before the album is done, however, musical styles will twist and turn along the way, reminding one at times of everyone from Lenny Kravitz ("Jingy") to Bill Withers ("Bullets") to Elvis Costello-meets-Hootie & the Blowfish ("Better"). Schneider's lyrics speak of broken relationships, angst, and drug abuse, though there are hints of humor and happiness that shine through from time to time. Some of his imagery is awkward — "Jingy" is about a metaphorical monkey on one's back, but the monkey sounds more like it's of the circus variety. Schneider needs to tame the occasional tendency to be too cute for his own good, both with his words and stylistically eclectic music. Apart from that flaw, the album is a pleasant, listenable set of adult alternative music.

Perfection! Top Ten Albums of the Century!

by waytogojoe

From Simonesque ability with lyrics to perfectly fused guitar lines, Bob Schneider's Lonelyland is one of the best albums of the century. He is a great pop/folk songwriter for this generation and comparable with the likes of Jack Johnson or John Mayer.
I own every major Bob Schneider album -- it is the kind of music that one loves the sing to, to wake up and put on, to show to friends . . . brilliant! Click yes if you feel it . . .

This is an example of why I love living in Austin

by I Heart Austin

I can't count on both hands and feet how many times I've had a great time watching Bob perform solo and with his band, the Scabs, etc. The music scene here truly does make Austin "The Live Music Capitol of the World". Thank you Bob, this "Album" (I thought only us old people still call them that) is one of my favorites and always will be. Thanks for being a fellow Austinite and pity all you folks who have to live somewhere else...
