Album Review
Nil Lara accomplishes an innovative lyricism rooted in traditional, Latin rhythms in this self-titled follow-up to his debut album My First Child. His Cuban heritage serving as catalyst, Lara weaves English and Spanish lyrics to communicate universal themes. From the first song, "Money Makes the Monkey Dance," which reflects upon the struggles and suffering of selling out, to the celebratory last, "Mama's Chant," the track titles consistently allude to the passion embedded in the melodies and words. The album's highlights — "Baby," "Fighting for My Love," and "Vida Mas Simple" — each distinctly explore love and liberation. Lara's incorporation of the Cuban three-toned tres guitar, the cuatro (a small, Venezuelan four-stringed instrument), the electric guitar, and various percussion instruments — congas, chants, beads, and a pandeiro — enhances his music's originality and eclecticism sprung from Cuban roots. Whether or not listeners comprehend Spanish is irrelevant; Lara's style is compelling and understandable in any language. [Considering that Nil Lara includes four of the seven tracks off My First Child, and three of four off his EP The Monkey, fans might opt for obtaining this release over the previous two.]

Why no more???
by Josh ElThis guy is brilliant!! This album is amongst my favorites - ever. I wish there were more.
Love, love, love
by emkim16I discovered Nil Lara while vacationing in the Florida Keys, and with the sun and the heat I fell in love. I love the lyrics, the beat, his voice...the combination...everything. It's something special and I really wish he would put out another album! He always puts me in a good mood (which is what music is supposed to do...right?) "Fighting for my love," "Baby," and "Mama's Chant" are my current faves, but that shifts around every few weeks or so. So if you're debating whether or not to buy his album, or whether or not to buy the entire album v. a few songs... BUY! Just get the album in its entirety and enjoy : )
Unique sound, Caribbean vibe, great album!
by CatSomeZsNil Lara was amazing live! His album has several great tunes; lots of replay here. He's got some political commentary on Money Makes the Monkey Dance. Baby, I Will Be Free, Vida Mas Simple and Mama's Chant--heck, just about all of them are catchy and unique. Wish he'd come out with more!
