iTunes Review
The poster boy for melancholic singer/songwriters, Nick Drake recorded three very different studio albums in his 26 years. Where his debut Five Leaves Left is somber and string-laden, and his swan song Pink Moon acoustic and stark, Bryter Layter is a virtual party, featuring strings, horns, and a galvanizing rhythm section on loan from Fairport Convention. The band dynamic tints Drake's compositions with a cosmopolitan flavor. You can practically smell the sophisticated nightclub of "At the Chime of the City Clock." When Drake does slow things to a contemplative crawl, it's for three momentous songs. Brilliantly augmented by John Cale's swelling viola and harpsichord, "Hazey Jane I," "Fly," and "Northern Sky" are wistful, romantic tunes that capture Drake's overwhelming sense of displacement in a harsh yet beautiful world.

Underrated.
by Danielson!Fabulous record, but very underappreciated. More jazzy than either of his other albums. Highlights: Hazey Jane I + II, One of these things first, Poor Boy, Northern Sky.

This guy is awesome! Northern Sky and Introduction in his second album!
by tractorGBVNick Drake is no doubt the best songwriter that ever wrote folk. This I swear to God, is the best folk album, maybe the best album I have ever heard! My Dad and I always listen to Nick Drake. Buy this whole album. Every song is good. If you could rate this album 1,000,000 stars, then I would. No iPod or iTunes is complete without this album. For that matter, buy Five Leaves Left and Pink Moon as well. I could compare Nick Drake to Guided By Voices, Green Day, or Coldplay.
