Album Review

Directions is an ambitious song-by-song visual supplement to Death Cab for Cutie's excellent 2005 Plans release. Proposals from around the world were submitted to the band, and a budget was allowed for 13 finalists to create videos that would translate their visions into reality. The results range from the existential and tragic ("Marching Bands of Manhattan," "What Sarah Said") to the innocent and charming. Rob Schrab's animation to "Crooked Teeth" is quite easily the highlight of the disc, and also noteworthy is Autumn DeWilde's interpretation of "Different Names for the Same Thing," which features an elementary school marching band redoing the song in mildly out-of-tune glory. This is definitely something Death Cab fans will enjoy, and a special tip of the cap goes to the bandmembers for allowing their songs to be adopted so idiosyncratically by other people.

It is an amazing compilation of fresh and new music videos, and i hope that the same thing is done with their newer albums.

Diversity is Key

These are great producers creating great interpratations of these amazing songs. And even though everyone has a different video running through their mind when listening to these songs, its interesting to see a different version.

directions is something that every person should purchase
that being said, there are some errors in the descriptions of the videos
i was in the video for "different names for the same thing" as a music student (cello), and i just need to say one thing:
we were a MIDDLE SCHOOL ORCHESTRA, not an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BAND

i feel quite petty for saying that, but i feel as though it must be clarified
all that said and done, you should purchase directions
it will change your perspective on things
