iTunes Review

The Tron-tastic pyramid scheme of Daft Punk's post-Coachella shows has managed to overshadow one key fact about the Parisian duo: They've been showing the kids how it's done for more than a decade. Not with albums so much as singles, from the A/B-side punch of their 12-inch breakthrough (the mad-for-it minimalism of "Musique," the hammerhead house of "Da Funk") to the neon-doused robo-rock of "Human After All." Musique Vol. 1 charts this progression with key cuts from 1993-2005, including a couple of sought-after remixes (the classic electro of Scott Grooves, the demented techno of Ian Pooley) and hook-seeking no nonsense edits of "Around the World," "One More Time," and "Technologic." A collection this consistent serves as more than a reminder of Daft Punk's ongoing "French touch" legacy; it makes a solid argument for christening Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo one of the most important dance duos of all time.
