Album Review

Composer David Julyan's murky score for director Christopher Nolan's equally atmospheric dueling magicians tale The Prestige is a hypnotic assault of tension and little release. The Memento and Insomnia composer builds what initially sounds like an orchestra tuning into a brooding, minimalist wave of a score that channels the Victorian dread of the film. Elliptical swelling strings, ghostly piano, and dissonant walls of brass ebb and flow throughout, making The Prestige a vaguely unsettling experience without the benefit of celluloid.

Love it

This movie and album are both amazing. I love to see my favorite movies' soundtracks on iTunes.

Are you listening closely?

I am absolutely amazed by the beauty of this music...
After listening the iTunes version I am going to buy a CD tomorrow so I can vaguely and truly enjoy it within the magical space of my Bose stereo...Even before the first notes you are inspired to take it further, you are flying to a different space in the different and mysterious Universe and Eternity gently wraps the shiny and bright current around your dark and vivid conciseness...
Music...the only way she can be...

Great mood music

This was a great film, and as I watched it the second time around, I realized that the music was composed by David Julyan, who also composed the score to Memento. The soundtrack fits perfectly to this film, just as Memento's did, and, just like Memento, the music lent more to the mood of the movie, rather than having the viewer focus more on the music than the plot. I just recently watched The Prestige's counterpart, The Illusionist, and, as I made inevitable comparisons to The Prestige, I noticed how the soundtrack for The Illusionist sometimes distracted from the actual movie, sometimes not even fitting what was going on. This was never true in The Prestige. If you are looking for a score that is exciting and has recognizable themes, then this is not it. But if you want the dark, atmospheric music that acompanies a twisted story like The Presige, then you've got it.
