'POWERNOISE'
by Digital Cyberwave
'Meta' is a bit more mellow then most powernoise I've heard, but really I haven't heard a lot of powernoise at all and Endif is really the only artist I know of, and this makes 'Meta' all the better. It's really unique compared to some other artists I've heard. It's almost like Aphex Twin and Front Line Assembly (can't really think of any more examples :D) Joined together to make this album so great. My favorite track is probably 'Bolter', it's hard, unique and the way the sound goes from really high to low is awesome. All of the track's are very memorable however, and it's a great album.
Endif exists to expand the boundaries of hard-electronic by emphasizing technique and aesthetic.

I have this crazy idea that there is more to hard-electronic, powernoise, or whatever it's being called this week, than just slopping distortion on everything or emulating trance.
Extensive attention is given to the creation and use of each and every sound. Very little non-original content is used; a vintage analogue drum kit here or there, maybe a modified stock patch from a softsynth now and then. The rest is self-generated by a wide variety of digital and analogue methods, re-edited, and used as samples - many gigabytes of which have accreted over the last 15 years.
This sonic 'mulch' is then assembled and manipulated in hardware and software samplers into coherent patterns, which are then stacked from 20 to as many as a hundred or so layers deep to form proto-songs. These are manipulated further still, exported, chopped, mutilated, reassembled. Eventually I decide a version is final and put it in the release folder.
I have this other crazy idea that there is more to hard electronic than expressing rage, spookiness, technical accumen, whatever. So with Endif the emotional/conceptual side is just as deeply layered. Otherness. Abstractions. Concepts. And yes, more visceral imagery and emotions as well, but not to the degree that these dominate the aesthetic.
Anyway, I hope this is conveyed when you listen to it, and I hope you enjoy Meta as much as I enjoyed making it. =]
The next CD is nearly done, so Meta won't be alone here on iTunes for long.
