Another stunner from Patrick Doyle
by JulianWantsACupcakeI think Doyle has become my favorite film composer, inching up there bit by bit since he did the score for "Henry V" with Kenneth Branagh. He's at his best when he's writing lush, expansive, beautiful music, and this movie must've given him that opportunity. Listen to tracks 9 and 14 for examples of this. The work is gorgeous. He's up there with the likes of Alexandre Desplat, Kerry Muzzey, and Aaron Zigman in the "they don't get used enough" category. Also check out the soundtrack for "Mrs. Winterbourne" which was a Patrick Doyle score... it's one of his best works ever. And give Wah-wah a download, it's worth it!
Bloody Brilliant!!!
by Senorita SprinklebunsI for one have had a terrible disposition when it comes to Patrick Doyle since he screwed up the score for the fourth installment of Harry Potter, but as I listened through this score I found that it was terrific. It is very much in his style, but has a simple beauty to it. The piano based pieces are magnificant in a word, and a lovely departure from the movies he has been scoring lately. I applaude thee Mr. Doyle, you are slowly but surely changing my oppinion on you, I am hard to please, and none but John Williams and Danny Elfman have yet to do that...
