My god - did you see him perform this music live with Elvis Costello on Spectacle? Magic. Sting can't do anything wrong.

His Creativity Never Ceases to Amaze

I was lucky enough to attend Sting & Edin's "Songs from the Labyrinth" concert in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago and heard all three of these songs performed live. His reimagining of all three of these songs with only lutes for instrumentation was brilliant. Who but Sting would think to perform a blues song like "Hell Hound on My Trail" with a 17th century instrument -- and make it work? "Fields of Gold" and "Message in a Bottle" both were so beautiful that the audience sat in a stunned, respectful silence before the applause began. I'm thrilled that these songs are on iTunes!

Magic

Lucky enough to have been in the Allen Room and see Sting perform these songs live with NYC hustling by in the background. The songs were a perfect complement to Dowland's minstrel songs and really showed again Sting's ability to constantly push his musical limits and to reinterpret his classic tunes. Karamazov didn't even know any of the songs prior to their reworking. The recording is great but even it cannot capture the personal investment that was evident in Sting's performance. Enjoy it!
