Yet another of some amazing singer songwriters spawned from the Motherland

by pcully

Morrow finds himself among some other incredible musicians from the Irish elite, such as Glen Hansard and Damien Rice.
I highly recommend the Red Rose Cafe to anyone who appreciates the meloncholy heartfelt melodies of the singer songwriter / neo folk genre. In my opinion this genre is turning out some of the best music in over a decade and Ireland is quickly staking it's claim in the industry as it keeps producing world class music such as this.

My favourite, "Greyscale Soldiers" is simply a beautiful song..also recommended, "Wine and Water".

What indie-folk is meant to be.

It’s hard to believe that such stunning and mature music could be from a band’s debut album, but such is the case with The New Year Tapes. What makes this album truly great is how it finds the perfect balance in style. The songs are a mix of beautifully subtle folk and catchy instrumentation. The lyrics are finely crafted works of poetry that feel both contemporary and timeless. The arrangements are powerful, but never overdone. All of the songs fit together perfectly, creating a cohesive, yet complex album.
Buy this. It does not disappoint.

The best record from Ireland in 2006

by Paddy-Whacked Radio™

Irish Singer and Songwriter Philip Morrow knows well how to use the spaces between the notes as effectively as the notes themselves.

The New Year Tapes is a staggering record containing songs that are woven with the stark and beautiful landscape of their native Donegal, while in no way being a Traditional or Celtic recording.

It is a record that gets better each time you listen to it.
