One of Mark Isham's Best Scores
by Dman_008There is no denying Mark Isham has brought out the best scores to some of the most watched movies such as CRASH. With this particular score, Mark delivers the right feel for an action thriller. Most notably are tracks such as “Shadow Group” and “A Show of Character” in which the music isn’t too fast or too slow. It’s attention-grabbing. The music flows perfectly along with each scene as the movie progresses. The music score to this movie is what makes this film even more thrilling to watch. The non-action tracks like “Destiny” are beautifully put together with piano and violins, etc. But they never stray far off from the action. Instead they keep you in the loop of the action that is about to come or just happened. This score I highly recommend to anyone who loves action thrillers like the TV series ‘24’ or movies like ‘The Sentinel’ which I may add, also have great scores. This score is one of Mark Isham’s best pieces of music. It’s worth taking a listen to. Especially to the fans of this film ‘NEXT’.
An Ineffective Score
by westmiddleTo be Frank, I thought this score was boring. It has its uplifting moments, but
overall it was very poor. Dont get me wrong, Mark Isham is a great and talented guy,
but he didn't deliver for this latest score. At times the music sounded stretched, as if Mr. Isham was simply running out of steam. Other times the music didn't emotionally connect with the audience which is crucial for any effective film score. He gave a valiant effort but unfortunately had poor results.
A Flawless and Magnificent Work of Art
by Jamesey CMark Isham is at his finest with "Next". This soundtrack brilliantly juxtaposes intense strings against the phenomenal action cues. I loved this soundtrack and I loved the movie.
