iTunes Review

As a solo performer, former Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell never seems completely comfortable choosing a path. His second solo album Carry On, much like his first solo project 1999’s Euphoria Morning, finds Cornell searching for the balance between his hard rock roots and the new, open possibilities and freedom that solo work presents. “No Such Thing” kicks things off with the tough histrionics that have always been Cornell’s forte. However, several cuts along, he sports a soulful strut (“Safe and Sound,” “She’ll Never Be Your Man”) that sounds as if he’s hunkered down in a funky nightclub for the evening. Throw in an odd acoustic coffeehouse-friendly cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” that’s informed by Cornell’s innate foreboding sense and you get the feeling that he’s looking to throw everyone off his scent. Old school Joe Cocker? Future duets with Joan Osborne? Back to the hard rock grind? The man’s got the range to pull off whatever he chooses and Carry On proves this in its zig zag way.

What you

by Jawfreelok

Chris Cornell is, without a doubt, talented. The departure of Soundgarden effectively ended the grunge movement in my opinion, and whether you liked them or not, Soundgarden had a unique rock style that had an effect on the music that followed. Audioslave, to say they weren't any good is just ludicrous. A three times platinum debut album, with a platinum follow-up and a gold third release tells a different story than "Audioslave was never that great". Chris flourishes around other creators, and becomes a somber melancholy writer when he's solo. If you enjoyed Soundgarden and loved their sound, if you enjoyed Audioslave and what they brought to the table, then avoid this album. Euphoria Morning had "Sunshower" and Carry On has "You Know My Name", and if you listen to the commentary to Casino Royale, you find out the movies composer collaborated with him. I love what you've done (beside breaking up two unbelievable bands), but your big head and melancholy flavor does NOTHING for my tastes. I don't like his solo work, but then again, maybe I am just unintelligent.

Great vocalist? Yes.

I'm a huge Chris Cornell fan. He may very well be the best male vocalist living today - in any genre. However, aside from a couple of bright spots, these songs really just aren't that great. If you want to hear Chris Cornell sing some beautiful songs, I strongly recommend checking out Temple Of The Dog, especially "Wooden Jesus", "Four Walled World", "Call Me A Dog" and "All Night Thing". ....and another thing: don't think that just because there's no distortion that this is better music. Hard rock is extremely difficult to sing. If you want proof, just check out how the [contestants] struggle pathetically on American Idol when they do rock week, then give a listen to Soundgarden. If you can't recognize that Chris Cornell is a cut above even with "all that distortion" then, well, no offense, but that's your failing.

AMAZING

Billie Jean by Chris Cornell is so amazing. When David Cook sang it on american idol it was AMAZING. i would suggest everyone to listen to David Cook's version of this popular song!
