Album Review

Ironically, the Mississippi-based Christian rock band's claim that they don't advertise themselves as "some crazy, new thing" was precisely what made their debut album stand out. Wavorly didn't set out to change the world, and yet had they been just slightly more aspirational they may have been within a stone's throw of doing just that. Their mix of modern rock and religious imagery presented itself at best as reprieving a tired genre and, at a minimum, an enjoyable listen. the blend is equal parts Mae, Muse, the Killers, Panic at the Disco, and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Dave Stovall's vocal theatrics match the vivid landscape of C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce, from which the band claims inspiration on at least two numbers ("Part One" and "Endless Day"). An entire layer of meaning exists under the surface for those who care to dig deeper into the band's messages of hope and reliance on a higher power. The single "Praise and Adore (Some Live Without It") is the most generic track, which is unfortunate considering potential fans may pass over this jewel of a band for something more striking. Listeners might be recaptured, however, if they catch wind of "Tale of the Dragon's Defeat," a self-contained epic that comes in under four minutes but has the makings of a full-length feature film.

Awesome!

Wavorly is great band. PERIOD. They've got a different type of music from some other rock bands. My friend's cousin is the pianist and back up singer. Here's my ratings:

Introducing: 4/5 A good solid violin intro that streams right into "Madmen".

Madmen: 5/5 A really great rock/alternative song. The only problem is that a few words are hard to understand. I like the ending to it. It's neat how goes into guitar.

Part One: 5/5 This is one of my favorite songs on here. The singers' voices fit in perfectly together, there's great music to it, and the lyrics are genius. It's amazing how they fit the words in with the music. It's synchronized perfectly.

Stay With Me: 4/5 A really neat song that has a different feel to it all around. Different music, different meaning behind it- It's great. The ending is my favorite part.

Praise and Adore: 5/5 This is the kind of song that should be played in youth groups every week.

Endless Day: 5/5 A really cool, fast paced, amazing song with a nice feeling to it.

Sleeper: 5/5 A nice song that is somewhat slower than the others on the album. This is good song with amazing guitar, vocals, and percussion.

Summer Song: 4/5 A light and fluffy ( =D ) song, it brings joy to me to listen to songs like these.

Time I Understood: 5/5 I like this one because it has a nice little feel to it. At the beginning of it, I thought of the Three Little Pigs. )=D

How Have We Come This Far: 5/5 I love this song because it has such a peaceful touch. It's a great song to listen to when you've been made fun of, picked on, or even pushed around. It reminds a person of how God is there for us and takes us where we need to go. You may ask "How have we come this far?" A simple answer. IT'S GOD!

Twenty Twenty: 4/5 A nice rock song that leads into "Tale of the Dragon's Defeat".

Tale of the Dragon's Defeat: 6/5 Yes people! You read my rating correctly! 6/5 This is a GREAT song that talks about how the writer wants to save a loved one from Satan. "A letter with no address, burning a hole with words writ in frantic distress. Storming my way thru the night gaze set on the light, worry gripping my chest. Oh, God, no not my love. She's no match for his tricks, the games he plays. Stay with me as I ride. Your words may have slain her before, but I'll fight to help her ignore every word that you say. To mask your intent to betray."

The Defeat: 5/5 This is also known as "Dragon (Outro)". Like "Introducing", this is a great insrumental song.

Enjoy what this great band has put they're work into! =D

Great group, great album...

I haven't ever written a review for anything I've bought...so that's saying something. I bought this CD when it first came out and I'm still listening to it. You don't find a lot of groups willing to put depth and effort into their lyrics and that's what I appreciated about this group. Their singing scripture, and its from the book of Revelation!!! Their talented musically and you can tell they put a lot of commitment into the message they relay. It's a great album all around and I love it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to hear something unique and deep. It's got a pretty important message to send, hope your willing to listen to what they have to say. Enjoy it!
