by CambriagoThe songs featured on this album represent a wonderful array of different sounds -- highlighting both the magnificence of the french organ and the brilliant musical talent of Mark Andersen. My personal favorite is Scherzo Antiphonale... its sound and rhythm are both relaxing and dynamic. Simply beautiful organ music!
Fantasie Francais
by Ringo ergo sumThis is a wonderful album of original French organ compositions by a former student of the great French organist, Marcel Dupre. To hear these works performed on the organ at Notre Dame Cathedral, by someone who was once associate organist there, is a real treat. My personal favorite, Lord Most Holy, is the sort of piece that you hum for days afterwards.
Fantasie in F# Major, which uses a very difficult key signature centered in the dreaded “black keys,” is a remarkable feat of virtuoso organ playing while remaining accessible to the average listener.
If you have never had the pleasure of hearing Mark Andersen perform live in concert, as I have in Seattle, listening to this album is the next best thing.
Great organ music!
by MozfanI'm not generally a great fan of organ music, but I liked the choices for this album and the variety of moods in them. Definitely a great choice for an organ music collection!
