iTunes Review

Sarabeth Tucek briefly sang with the Brian Jonestown Massacre and even appeared in their Dig! documentary in the moments before Anton Newcombe kicks a heckler in the head. Tucek has also sung a duet with Bill Callahan on Smog's "Supper" and provided backing vocals on EZT's "Goodbye Little Doll." One listen to Tucek's beautifully smoky voice set to these gorgeous melancholy musings and you'll understand why the Cat Power comparisons are as inevitable as the Nico parallels. "Something for You" (co-written with the aforementioned Newcombe) moves with a slow and heavy lidded swagger under mid-‘60s instrumentation as Tucek sings sparse notes and lovelorn lyrics. Neil Young fans are sure to enjoy her Zuma-inspired "Hot Tears," while the jingling and jangling "Nobody Cares" is a salient standout amongst her mostly demure compositions. Easily the most upbeat song here, it sounds like she's fronting Younger Than Yesterday-era Byrds, as her silken, sultry voice dances around the unmistakable chime of a 12-string Rickenbacker guitar.

So Good!

It's an amazing album. Her voice makes my heart ache, but in a good way. I loved it the first time through, and haven't stopped loving it since. I think this is a lady who is going places.
