Fans of the movie may be a bit nonplussed to find the soundtrack void of any Hilary Swank or Gerald Butler tunes featured in the film. That is until the first few acoustic notes of The Pogues' "Love You 'Till The End" pipe out of your speakers: a perfect way to start a romantically themed collection. Shane MacGowan and company gives way to a piano-heavy serenade that falls back on a bed of cellos, viola, and fiddles, foregoing the Pogues’ signature swashbuckling dipsomaniac sound. Not to worry, though, because Pogues protégés Flogging Molly make up for it with the kind of tipsy Irish folk tune that would also go well with slugging a bottle of booze from inside a ramshackle country pub. Most of the other songs here abound in lovey-dovey vibes and soft-rocking moods to blend cohesively in the ideal Valentine's Day mix tape or anniversary present. James Blunt's "Same Mistake" is a standout, with lilting piano and gentle falsettos sounding like a lost Maurice Gibb track. Looped beats, acoustic arpeggios and ambient noise all contrast nicely under Chuck Prophet's weathered voice on "No Other Love," but it's Nellie McKay's sweet little ukulele-accompanied title track that takes the cake.
