Good Stuff

by Grahamaham

Some good stuff here...the single is off of Diorama which is fantastic, and then we've got some b-sides and a remix from the Young Modern album. The b-sides are definitely a must have for Silverchair fans, Barbarella especially. The Presets Remix isn't great but still satisfies those jonesing for a dance mix. Some nice videos included in the package too.

Seeing the bits of negative reviews coming from some listeners reminiscing the mid 90's, I can only say, "Get with it!" Silverchair's last three albums, Young Modern, Diorama, and to an extent Neon Ballroom has all been about innovation and evolution from the 90's grunge era... Where have you been?

(For those that are still longing for the days of verse, chorus, verse - check out The Best of Silverchair from 2000. This will give you a comprehensive collection of the harder grunge you long for, and it will also transition in some of the softer/more emotional songs from Neon Ballroom.)

The songs on this particular EP are a mix of Diorama and YM, which flow very nicely together. Johns has developed into a melodic, creative writer, developing complex, grand gestures in his music. The lyrics are also deeper and far superior than what teenagers wrote over a decade ago.

Straight Lines (Preesets Mix). That is just strange and unnecessary. I can't wait 'till they ban remixes like that. It'll be a proud day for the music industry. The mixer must have been high when he/she was working on it and just kind of screwed around with it. The rest of the stuff is descent. I'm not a huge fan of Silverchair anymore, but I think some of this is bettr than the stuff on Young Modern.

Silverchair quickly rose to international stardom in 1995 by mining a mix of Nirvana and Pearl Jam on their debut album, Frogstomp.
