Darren Woolridge's Iridium Flares endeavor may seem a big arrogant and contrived in its 'instrumental-digital-multiplatform-art project' concept, if somebody explained it to me at a party I'm sure I wouldn't be writing the band name down. But if you ignore all the music's posturing to be original you'll find out it really is a lovely thing you've stumbled upon. Iridium Flares is a nice mix of the shimmering soundscapes in instrumentation that will remind listeners of Amiina and Sigur Ros, and squelching shifting electric beats and effects like a more shy Dntel. The combination is certainly intriguing to the ears and while the songs aren't perfect in scope or crescendo, it's certainly an exciting first foray into music. I'll definitely be listening to whatever the sophomore release is. Not that I won't be listening to this; for some minor flaws and missteps it's a breath of fresh air and I love it, for being so willing to throw itself out the window in hopes of flying. Iridium Flares succeeds in lifting off like a flare from a gun and we can only wait and see if the light that comes will be blinding.
