iTunes Review
This Oregon duo perform electronically enhanced indie-pop with a thick reverb sheen that turns what could be rudimentary folk songs into stargazing epics. The simple acoustic guitar plucking of “Shed Your Love” transforms beyond its sparse beginnings as the string section emerges and the initial lonesome drifter feel finds a pathway into space. “Broken Afternoon” works similarly, beginning like an old Bob Dylan tune or Paul Westerberg ballad where the orchestration fleshes things out and sends the sentiments into a haunting otherworldly dimension. Elsewhere, “No Regrets” knocks out a lo-fi backporch jam with a screeching harmonica and joyous yelps that urge on the group sing-a-long. Sometimes their folk roots are discarded for their pop influences; singer Brandon Summers never completely loses his Dylan-like rasp, but musically the band switches gears. The album’s opener, “Lately,” revolves around an elliptical shimmer of keyboards and Smiths-like guitar where the legacy of British shoegazer bands are evoked. “Can’t Say No” follows with a misty melancholy that recalls the Clientele’s foggy notions. The title track does battle with bands such as Interpol and Editors for its elucidation of British goth-pop. Songs often pass as dreams in an attractive twilight worth revisiting.

beautiful
by DRAY15ive listened to this album 6-7 times since ive gotten it. its way ahead of its time. (as in our time). This should be the popular music on itunes.
Completely amazing.
by Cassie11If you haven't already, you need to download this album. The Helio Sequence has such a unique sound and the songs are so relaxing and beautiful. I could put Shed Your Love on repeat forever. Also, I went to see Keane and they opened for them...amazing live.
Undoubtedly one of the best indie rock/electronica albums out there
by Ken MWI'm usually not one to listen hard to indie rock and I simply don't listen to much electronica, but The Helio Sequence isn't very indie rock and it isn't very electronica. It's a mashup of both, and it sounds like a musical interpretation of a really really interesting idea you just had that you just know is a fantastic one. There are plenty of too-self-aware, borderline-emo indie bands out there who mumble some crap into a mic and basically screw around with echo and reverb until it just sounds God-awful. The Helio Sequence is not that band and this is not that music. Keep Your Eyes Ahead is actually a fairly lightharted, airy trip into that point when you're half-awake on a Saturday at eleven forty-seven in the morning and you're considering rolling out of bed in about an hour or two.
Undoubtedly the best track on the album is Hallelujah, which basically tosses you through the front window of a class on how to properly layer a song.
As someone who actually saw The Helio Sequence live at Bumbershoot not two days ago, having never seen or heard them (or heard OF them) before in my life, and as someone who just purchased two of their albums and loves them, I will say with all certainty that this is beyond a five star album. If anything at all, any song on here calls your name, go for it. I'll bet money you come back and buy the entire album.
