iTunes Review

After the glam/dance hybrid that was 2005's Supernature, Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree feels like the ideal album for the morning after. Beginning with the gentle, pastoral finger-picked acoustic sounds of "Clowns," the album glides through ambient electronic textures with a heavy focus on Alison Goldfrapp's warm whispers. Songs such as "Happiness" pick up the pace a bit, drawing from joyous '70s piano pop. Like a cosmic fusion of Air and Kate Bush, Goldfrapp prove that they can conjure up a bucolic future just as well as they can fill up the dance floor.

So Goldfrapp decided to switch gears and go for a mellow downtempo approach. I thought that would be exciting, deep and provacative but the final execution falls flat. Its not nearly as sonically rich as their past efforts and I hate to say it but they do much better with their electro-stomp dance floor extravaganzas. Leave the mellow downtempo stuff for the Portishead's and Morcheeba's of the world because they do it better.

I don't know when I could sit through this.

Each song is beautiful. No doubt about it. But I HAVE to put it into a mix of stuff because everytime - EVERY time I try to sit through this album I fall asleep. I almost did it in the CAR!
I bet the recording studio was totally asleep the entire time for this album. If you want a lullabye....

A Softer Side to Goldfrapp

Yes, we expected a dance electronic album, but we got the blissful reminiscence folk of Seventh Tree. The sound is warm, brilliant and for the summertime. Great album to listen to when you're relaxing. Cannot wait until their next release.
