an amazing album.

when i first heard this album i was alittle skeptical because i didnt really LISTEN to it, i only HEARD it. there is a difference in that. but once i really payed attention, i got addicted to this album like i was addicted to their first album, which was by far amazing in itself. im so sad that they've broken up. hopefully sometime down the line they will come back and make another bangin CD!

baumer strikes again, with a more edgy album.

The album, "Were it Not For You", comes out with a little more grit than their previous album, "Come on, Feel It". This is done by the addition of more weighty tones and less playful lyrics; this is evident from the opening track "In Your Stead". The band seems to have matured their sound and taken a step in a different direction from the playful pop band that might have played a prom in the 80’s. (Which is a pretty amazing sound that I couldn't get enough of on “Family of Geniuses”/ “Come on, Feel It.”) Although this album does have some playful moments scattered throughout there seems to be an underlining edge that drives the album. Songs like "Hard Drug" and "Lucky Strike" are the best examples of this. Throughout the ablum the guitar work is effectively delivered and the dynamics of the songs are well crafted but I can’t help but feel some hesitation. I feel lost somewhere between the electronic layering and the indie pop. Both ways would suit this band fine but it’s the tension that hurts this album. I can’t wait to hear what this band does next. They have a unique sound and two innovative albums.

this album is the single most played album on my ipod. there is no getting sick of it. this band is exploding with potential. if there were any god at all, they would be the biggest band on the planet. luckily, our hometown gets a show every so often.
