iTunes Review

Jack and Meg White brought garage rock back to the masses when major label V2Records picked up their third album, White BloodCells, from tiny Sympathy for the Record Industry. Perhaps, indie production values and all, this was just too good even for the mainstream to ignore? Could be. Much has been made of the pair's simple guitar-drums lineup, red-white color scheme and willingness to foment gossip about whether they're brother and sister or a formerly married couple. But the real story here, more even than Jack's Page-damaged guitar heroics, is the songwriting. It would be worth talking about even if these were just excellent pastiches of blues and punk, but Jack White's talent extends far beyond that. These are the stories of an eccentric but grounded guy making what he can of love and life. Obviously, a lot of people could relate.
