Lost Treasure

by Post Punk Guy

It is unbelievable that these guys never released a proper album, as they released a slew of awesome singles in the early 1980s. Staples on college and alternative commercial radio in NYC, London's Way of the West were always unique, fresh and challenging. Each release was an interesting progression in their take on post-punk, funk, danceable, guitar-based music. From "Don't Say That's Just for White Boys" through "See You Shake," "Drum," and "City for Lovers," they released quality music. They are truly a lost treasure. Pick up this digital package. You won't regret it!

One of the best collections of music ever! 25 YEARS overdue . . . and worth the wait!

Way of the West were a singles band of the early to mid 1980s. Because they never produced an album (until now), they were off the radar screen of most music directories. Their fan base was small but devoted. Emerging from the "new romantic" scene contemporaneously with the likes of Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, Spandau Ballet and Depeche mode, Way of the West were probably the best of the lot. Their big club hit (at least in the U.S), Don't Say That's Just for White Boys is a timeless classic, as are their other "mini" hits, such as See You Shake, Drum, and (the Talking-Heads like) City for Lovers; I'm not as wild about Feel the Steel, BUT perhaps their best (ok ok, my favorite) song was actually a b-side: Countdown! The "new" songs (the last few on here) are great as well, as is the live track. This can basically be thought of as a greatest hits album, and it ranks among the best such compilations of the past few decades (no joke!). The great thing about Itunes is you don't have to take my word for it; just listen to the samples & judge for yourself!

Who were those guys?

Way Of The West. The best ‘annoymous band from the late 70’s/80’s. I would wait patiently for their next twelve inch - one per year - nothing on the cover but the name of the band and an illustration. Very tight and melodic. I remember hearing ‘City For Lovers’ played at Studio 54 and being gobsmacked at the sweaty hords grooving to it. Great stuff.
