embrace the memory
by kittiedaggerWhen I first heard "Mrs. Wallington", it threw me back immediately to the ballads of the Beatles. Without stealing a thing, Vinehouse has managed to weave sentimentallity with a melody that lingers. If you are looking for a song with a little more kick, look no further than "Killer on the Road." Demonstrating versatility and the power to stay, this album has already become one of my favorites.

Power Pop Heaven
by RawksolidOn their debut "Young Regret," New York based Vine House have delivered a killer collection of potent power pop hooks, harking back to 70s stalwarts Cheap Trick, Big Star and the Raspberries and the sweet 60s melodies of Brian Wilson and Jan and Dean. The players are excellent across the board, with drummer Charlie Zelany's driving rhythms and spot on fills, Ed Fingerling's precise bass work, Rob Kudyba's imaginative and tasty guitar leads, and front man Mark Stancato's pitch perfect rhythm guitar and lead vocals.
The songwriting is power pop at its finest, not only melodically but lyrically as well. Stancato has striven to create fully fleshed characters and stories in his songs. "Rosalie" tells the harrowing story of a woman trapped in a doomed relationship of violence and pain; "Mrs. Wallington" is a delicate and bittersweet remembrance of the past; "Justine" is full of the energy and twitchy hormones of adolescent first lust; and double A-side single "Killer on the Road/Coffee Break" are, respectively, the stories of the deal killer within and without us all, and of a working stiff desperate for that next cuppa joe.
"Young Regret" never disappoints, offering hook after hook, with melodies that stab and swirl around sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always effective songs and stories. It is nothing short of power pop heaven.
