K'naan Yeah!

by OneSkinnyDJ

I don't know who came first, the chicken - Kayne West - or K'nann, whose rap style has certain similarities. However, K'naan is the worldly version of what Kayne wish he himself was in the West. This is very soulful and sophisticated music. If there is ego to this album, it has been cleverly left out. If you enjoy Spearhead you might like this - it does get pretty hippie in parts, however, there is some clever writing that goes beyond the boundries of the hippie music commune.

I stumbled across K'Naan hoooka.com when "Dusty" first came out. I'm not a huge hiphop/rap fan because most of the lyrics just aren't conscious enough. Too much booty and too many guns if you know what I mean. But this hit it for me. It really feels like there's a Griot in him, and the references back to more traditional rhythms, instrumentation and subject matter are key. I hope he keeps it up. I caught him live at the SXSW NPR show this year and it was an awesome show and the new material is just as good. Props...

Amazing album

Let me start off by saying that I don't normally listen to rap, and I almost never would pay to download it, so the fact that I gave this 5 stars says something. This is quite simpy one of the best albums I own, and the songs Smile, if Rap Gets Jealous, and What's Hardcore are some of the best songs I've heard, with hard hitting lyrics that don't sound manufactured at all, but rather come straight from the heart.
