Deserving of a wide audience

by Robert Sharp

This is indeed a fine record, full of varying moods and textures, while it keeps a firm hand on its Rock and Roll identity. The guitar work is particularly good, and the mix is near perfect -- you can really easily hear all that is going on. The lyrics are very good as well. I like "In Flux,' which shows a hard-won maturity, and "Sunday Morning" a wistful look back at a love affair. The mood on "Bayou Bridge" is spookily cool, but the best is saved for last: "Wheels" is a song that could have been written by a young Brian Wilson, if he had only grown up nearer the Pasadena that is in Texas, rather than the one that is in California.

"approaching perfection" - Amazon review by David H. Ruisard (Houston, Texas)

Kanude, what can I say? This is one of the best indie recordings to hit the market for 2008. He manages to pay homage to the past while pushing the music forward towards something fresh, raw and unique. He is perhaps one of the greatest artists working in Texas right now. His general tone smacks of a roadhouse riot with loud, pumping guitars and thunder drums churning up a frothy soundscape. The vocal stylings pay homage to great rockers of the 1950's. Image a pissed off Roy Orbison wailing away after a peyote binge and you get the idea. The track that really sticks with me is "Sweet and Sour." That chic that phases in on this tracks and others really sticks with me. A very sexy accessory! To sum up the work here, the whole album comes together like a sonic version of "Death Proof" (the second Tarantino directed portion of "Grind House"). I'm not sure if the cover of this CD is an intended reference or not... Those who saw him at South by Southwest this year know the Houston-based rocker can bring the house down so if he comes to your town, try to check him out. As a side note I happened to bump into the artist here in Houston last year at Taco Truck (of all places). I have to say, he's one of the coolest, most down to Earth guys I've met. I would have given this album 5 stars but I try to reserve that for hallowed works like London Calling or This is It.
