Wizards & MUGGLES
by ZivlokA couple of people have expressed bewilderemnt at non-Harry Potter themed songs. That's because not all of these bands are wrock bands. The vast majority are, but there are still a couple non-HP bands on there.
Also, the album is not political, as was already said, it's just that marriage equality is one of the causes being supported by this album.
As for the actual album, it's alright. If you have to choose between the two, get the first volume. Let's compare the two briefly, shall we?
Album artwork: 2, definitely. One f the high points of this album is the artwork, and that's actually not a slight at the album, but just a testament to how friggin' epic the artwork is.
Bands: 1. This comp has way too much wrock for it to truly be wizards and muggles, and the two or three bands here that are non-wrock have names that non-obsessive fans could believe to be wrock band names. Of course, why a non-obsessive HP fan would be listening to wrock is beyond me, but still. Now, in the first Volume, there were some muggle bands that were also wrock bands, like Japonica/Justin and the Finch-Flethcleys. I was fine with that, though, because the wrock bands sang about Harry Potter, and the muggle bands sang about other stuff. I really love the idea of banding muggles and wizards together, so I was disappointed that this was mostly all wrock, almost all the time.
Songs: 1. HatP sort of phoned it in again, though keeping on the theme of food. The first time, with "Bacon", it was random enough to be funny enough to make any badness seem intentional and therefore make the song more hilarious. The new song has the vocals hard to hear for no good reason, and the lyrics are too repetitive, though the music for it is pretty good. Anywho, there are some good songs, and one of the bands on here is Oliver Boyd and The Remembralls, which always makes good stuff. But again, the album sounds more like it is supposed to be a "Best of wrock" or something, which it really isn't. I think that the album would have been made much better by taking out a few of the worse songs, and putting in some muggle songs, just to balance it and give the overall appeal more flavor.
So, all in all, get Volume 1 instead, but I would recommend individually purchasing a few of these songs, a great list of which can be found in someone else's review, not too far below mine.
Wizrockin' for great causes
by ltricshoesIt's wizard rock (for the most part). It's awesome music (for the whole part). It's DIY. It's for a good cause. It's some of the best bands who fly the wrock flag. You get your straight up rock (Gred & Forge, The Whomping Willows), basement punk (HatP, The Cedric Diggorys), your catchy hooks (JFFatSQ, Catchlove), your awesome acoustic (The Nifflers, Tom Riddle and Friends).... this is what a real compilation should be. Lots of different varied music with the same central theme. A must-buy if you're a wrock fan.
