iTunes Review

This married couple may not be the new George Jones –Tammy Wynette tandem (they seem to be getting along too well, for starters) but the duo make a convincing case for upholding country music’s traditional values, as their honeyed old-world harmonies and tales of love and life come across as completely natural, and informed but not corrupted by modern life. Small ensemble playing and simple, unencumbered production values contribute to the intimate settings and nicely present these modest songs with eager hooks. There’s a simple symmetry to the tunes, an emotional balance and maturity that feels like the result of the couple’s own stable marriage. The longing at the heart of “Once in Awhile” is manageable. The compliments in the face of potential rejection for “Sweetest Waste of Time” are genuine and heartfelt. There’s an overall sense of empathy and forgiveness throughout these songs that emphasize a deeply spiritual view (further evidenced with the afterlife glimpse of “No One Hurts Up Here”). Not every relationship needs drama for its firepower. Sometimes good intentions are enough.

Dull Dull Dull

Nothing much to say about this lackluster effort. Kasey's voice is almost as good as it was on "The Captain," her first CD, but her songwriting and singing are not even so-so. Shane Nicholson adds little. Vocal harmonies are occaisionally good, but mostly unremarkable. Tempos are slow to medium only. Instrument playing is just average, with no suprises or originality.

New nostalgia?

If you are a fan of Buckingham Nicks (the album Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham made prior to joining Fleetwood Mac) then you will probably REALLY love this. Sweet, yet edgy harmonies and smart accompaniment combine here to form a little jewel of an album that has great sound steeped in classic singer songwriter tradition.

I found the song "Rattlin' Bones" as the Free Song of the Week. I really liked it. I have never been a fan of this kind of "country" song before, usually pop list stuff. I listened to the rest of the songs on the album and totally enjoyed it. I will forever be a fan!!! Thank you for the wonderful lyrics that touched my heart and made me smile. Kasey and Shane, I will do my very best to tell everyone I know about your album.
