"Carbon Ribs" is a fantastic song. This is the most moving collection of music I have encountered in a long time. I am so encouraged.

good stuff.

Songwriting full of imagination and faith. Truly American sound. The more I listen, the more I love it. Songs like Carbon Ribs remind me of the lyrical styling of classic Bruce Springsteen tunes. All the songs are interlaced with image and metaphor, transcendent faith and hope, not unlike the songs of U2. The comparisons aren't fair, because those artists have sustainability, but at this moment, in this album, McMillian has hit the nail on the head.

I discovered this guy way too late!

I did not hear of John Mark McMillan until a few months ago when I found out that he wrote "How He Loves". I quickly began to look into this amazing musician. He stands out among countless others in this business because of his authentic lyrics, his artistry in the music, and his deep rooted faith that is evident in nearly every song. So, even though this is nearly a year after this album came out, I must say that this is one of the best albums I've heard in a long, long time. "Dress Us Up" is a powerful anthem about the powerful love of God. "Death in His Grave" sings like an old, folk hymn about the victory of Christ over death in his resurrection. "Carbon Ribs" is simply beautiful, filled with ambient, reverby guitars, and acoustic harmonics behind a chillingly beautiful melody. "The Medicine" rocks without loosing that rootsy attitude. If Bruce Springsteen were 20 years younger and found Jesus, he would write music like this. Thank the Lord for musicians like John Mark McMillan!
