Solid Album

I stumble on Taproot browsing on itunes. I'm I'm definately glad I did. "As one" was the first song I tried listening to, and I was mildly pleased so I tried out more, I ended up buying out Taproot on itunes. This is the first band I've listened to where I cannot begin to rank the albums, each album has songs that I fell in love with, and a couple that are alright. Still worth 5 stars tho. Here's my recommendations

Wherever I Stand (9/10)
Hand that Holds True(8/10)
Take it(10/10) I'd say this is the best song on the album.
These Walls(9.5/10) If ur willing to buy the whole album, great song
It's Natural(9/10) Give this song a chance, I didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me.

I have been supporting Taproot for many many years, since 2000 as a matter of fact, and feel comfortable supporting them still to this day. Whenever an artist I support releases something I don't like, I still call them on it. Let me first off praise their first three releases and their live show; if you haven't seen Taproot live, you've missed out. If you haven't heard Gift, Welcome, or Blue-Sky Research, you've missed out. Onto OLRH: The album was as BSR was, three years in the making, and it was supported with clips of music as the band dissolved its deal with longstanding label Atlantic Records. Most of the music clips I heard didn't seem to make it onto the record, and after hearing a clip of Take It and Path Less Taken, I got excited. Then I heard Wherever I Stand and You're Not Home Tonight, still excited. Then I heard Karmaway, which pretty much sealed it. Until I heard the rest of the album, that is. This is all my opinion, so you can take it for what it's worth, but when a band who writes and performs the caliber of songs that they do to release the six other songs on this record (not counting Stethoscope due to it being an instrumental, which should've been the intro, IMO), you can't help but doubt their future. I love this band, but I can't love the other six songs on this record at all. I hope for more in the future, and something more indicative of their true style. I would have given 2 and a 1/2 stars given the option, but I give three because it is Taproot after all, and It's Natural was a ballsy option, but misguided and lackluster because of the choice pitch and timing of the female vocals.

I have to say... I really like Taproot

They used to be one of my favorite bands, until I bought our long road home. The single is great, and some of the other songs are decent, but it's best used as a background track to doing something else... I've tried listening to it when I'm just relaxing, but it just doesn't have the same kickass sound as their older tracks, no off beat vocals, less hardcore guitar riffs... it just doesn't seem like the same Taproot I've enjoyed these last few years. Compared to most other alt rock, I'd give it a 3.5, but compared to their past albums... 2.5.

Biography

Formed: 1997 in Ann Arbor, MI

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Ann Arbor, MI's own Taproot sent their demo to Limp Bizkit's frontman/business entrepreneur Fred Durst in 1998, not ever thinking Durst would call them back personally. To the band's surprise, Durst replied, promising the alt-punk metal quartet the world. But Durst apparently took too long to deliver...
