iTunes Review

While Oasis has always been ruled by the Gallagher Brothers, Liam and Noel, in recent years the band has transformed into a democracy with each band member contributing a song or two. 2008’s Dig Out Your Soul features six from Noel that range from the trademark Oasis bombast of “Waiting for the Rapture” to the bluesy kitsch of “Bag It Up” and “(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady,” while his “Soldier On” and guitarist Gem Archer’s “To Be Where There’s Life” do their best to shuttle off into psychedelia with a slight taste of Indian raga shading the Brit-Pop wallop. Liam’s Lennon-like ballad (what would an Oasis album be without some nod towards the Beatles?) “I’m Outta Time” is affecting and for pure classic Oasis, brother Noel’s “The Shock of the Lightning” and “Falling Down” come closest to their wall of sonic bliss. The entire album is produced to loud, numbing effect, the dynamics deliberately sacrificed. Oasis prefer to overwhelm the listener with wave after wave of unrelenting verve and style.

The album that made me a fan

by IndianaJones45

This was my first Oasis album, a frined of mine wanted me to get into them. So he sent me Dig Out Your Soul. And after my first listen, all i can say is WOW!!! This album made me a Oasis fan and it didnt let me down.

Track by Track Review:

1. Bag It Up (8.5/10) - A great opener to a physcadelic album. Noel's guitar riff and Liams vocals make this a energetic start to whats to come. It can be a little repetitve at times though =P

2. The Turning (9/10)- One of my favorite tracks on the album. The chorus is just so awesome and filled with fun. It's a shame the band wasnt together long enough to make it a single :(

3. Waiting for the Rapture (8/10)- Noel's first vocal performance on the album. The riff bears some similarity to Bag It Up, but thats not a bad thing! Wish it was longer though.

4. The Shock of the Lightning (10/10) - One of the best tracks on this album! This song is probably the most energetic on the album. The amazing riff and chorus will instantly makes this a favorite to anyone.

5. I'm Outta Time (7/10) - Probably the weakest track on the album. Liam has wrote some amazing songs in the past, but this has to be his worst in my opinion. (I actually love Little James, unlike some people) The chrous is repitive, but its still a decent song either way =P

6. (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady (7.8/10) - The second weakest track on the album, but much better than I'm Outta Time. The stomping and clapping are pretty catchy. ^^

7. Falling Down (10000000000/10) - MY FAVORITE SONG ON THIS ALBUM!!! The whole song is so haunting and extremley addicting. The whole physcadelic feeling to this song make it a must have. If you only want one song from this album, i HIGHLY reccomend this song. The best part of the song is 2:40-3:09

8. To Be Where Theres Life (9/10) - Another great song from the album. The simple beat is catchy and you will be singing "DIG OUT YOUR SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUL" everytime ^^

9. Ain't Got Nothin (8/10) - It's a short song, but it does its job as a great song.

10. The Nature of Reality (10/10) - Another one of the best songs on here. The beat and riff is so epic and groovy. Easily one of Oasis's best songs of the 2000s

11. Soldier On (9.5/10) - I absolutley love this song. It's such a fitting closer to this amazing album. My only complaint is the repitive singing of "sooooldier ooon" near the end.

Overall (9.5/10) A must have!!!!!!

Waste of great talent

I love Oasis. They're the most inspiring, hooky, lyrically and rhythmically savvy band to come along since The Beatles split up. I especially love their old stuff, like "Definitely Maybe", "(What's the Story) Morning Glory", and most favorably "Be Here Now". Those were great albums, and every song on them was great. However, their latest installment "Dig Out Your Soul" was lacking. I feel like I should've liked this a lot more than I did, and as I listened to bland song after bland song, I thought to myself, this isn't Oasis. This is Oasis buying into the mainstream, and it's not working for them. This isn't rock 'n' roll. In fact, I don't really know just what it is. I like it, but not that much.

The only two standout tracks on the album were "Shock of the Lightning", which I've loved long since I bought the entire album, and "Nature of Reality", which contained riffs reminiscent of their best moments, the '90s.

But then again, I've only listened to the album once. Maybe it'll grow on me over time. At least hopefully...
